Taking a multiple choice exam is a skill, just like applying a splint or starting an IV. This technique increases your chances of making a correct educated guess from 25 percent to 33 percent or even 50 percent. If you aren't able to choose the best response right away, eliminate the ones that are clearly wrong. Once you have answered the question, move on. The NREMT exam does not let you go back to a question once you've answered it. You got this! A positive attitude keeps you relaxed and focused, no different than playing sports or mastering a new hobby. The questions push against your level of proficiency. That's why students who take the exam say that's a very challenging test. This continues until the computer determines that your knowledge base is at a level deemed entry level competent in that area before it moves on to the next section. If you get that one right, you'll receive another question that's even more challenging. That's because it's adaptive, meaning that if you answer one question correctly, the computer will give you another question in the same content area that is harder. If your initial response does not match the choices, then re-read the stem to make sure you understand its intent. If you really understand the stem, you should be able to formulate a response before you look at the choices. You probably have heard of this test taking tip before and it's helpful. Habit 5: Answer the question first, then look at the answers. One will be the most correct, under the circumstances being described in the stem. That's because there may be more than one right answer, depending on how you interpret the stem (that's why they are called distractors). ![]() Notice that you are choosing the best answer, not the right one on an NREMT exam. Second, the difficulty of the question is really set in the quality of the choices. For example, an anxious patient with cool pale and diaphoretic skin may be hypotensive. You may need to infer certain pieces of information from what you read. First, the stem does contain all of the information you need to answer it correctly. There are several distinguishing traits that separate NREMT exam questions from the ones you may have seen in class. The remaining choices are called distractors. The first "question" part is called the stem. Habit 4: Know what to expect.Īny multiple choice exam item consists of the same parts. Like any other muscle, the brain can only absorb so much without having to take a break to process. ![]() It's probably better to study over four, two-hour sessions spread throughout the week, rather than trying to read nonstop for eight hours. Too much studying can be less than helpful. Reduce or eliminate distraction - those earbuds fill your brain with music, not knowledge (unless you're listening to recorded lectures or the Inside EMS podcast, of course!) Habit 3: Give your brain a break. Prep your study materials so that you don't waste time pulling everything together at the last minute. For example, schedule your Friday afternoons to be in the library from 1 to 5 p.m. Each week set aside specific times to spend reviewing your notes and the reading. While studying with friends and coworkers can be helpful, your brain does need some quiet time to process all of that information. There are truly no dumb questions except the ones you don't ask and regret not doing so later. Ask about topics that are difficult for you. Review your in class exam results so you better understand why you chose the wrong answers. Pay attention to the topics your instructor presents - they are likely the more critical ones to master. If you know that the NREMT exam is waiting for you at the end of your class, keeping that in mind while you're still in the class will help create a mindset that prepares you for first time success. ![]() 41-year EMS veteran from Minnesota credits two rules he learned from M*A*S*H for his career longevity.

![]() And there’s also now a VST3-format plug-in version, and compatibility with the ARM architecture for Linux users.Īdditionally, there are some MIDI improvements, including an ‘always on’ event recorder in the stand-alone app. There’s a brand-new tuning section, to support historical temperaments, microtonal setups and more, without users having to get their hands dirty with Scala files. The underlying physical modelling has been refined, so that even long-standing instruments are said to have better “realism and acoustic presence”. Version 6 is improved in three main areas. ![]() What does Pianoteq 6 do that keeps it competitive? Ready In 6 The virtual piano market has never been more hotly contested. However, as Pianoteq has developed and improved, so has the sample-based opposition. And yet its fundamental nature has never changed: it doesn’t use samples at all, has a miniscule installation size (stand-alone and plug-in versions alike are about 50MB), and asks for no more than 256MB RAM. Along the way it’s turned its hand to not only acoustic pianos, but also historical fortepianos, Rhodes, Wurlitzer and Hohner electrics, as well as concert harps, steel drums and pitched percussion. Over its lifetime Pianoteq has improved steadily, from a proof-of-concept CPU-stretching upstart, to a rounded, refined, versatile and (most importantly) great-sounding virtual instrument. So it might come as a surprise, if you haven’t followed its development from the start, that Pianoteq is now 12 years old. ![]() Modartt’s modelled piano just keeps getting better.Īcoustic modelling instruments and plug-ins, which generate sounds from mathematical simulations of real materials, are still relatively thin on the ground, and can sometimes have a bit of a futuristic vibe. The Flexify virtualisation layer presents all data in a single bucket. Behind that, Flexify handles routing to and from whichever storage providers the customer uses and in whichever combination is specified, for reads, writes, lists, with changes possible on the fly for reasons of performance, cost etc. It is all object storage, and the providers behind the curtain include: Amazon S3, Azure, Google Cloud, Backblaze, Wasabi, Digital Ocean, Alibaba Cloud, Cloud, Yandex, Dell EMC ECS and Minio.Īpplication API calls land at Flexify using S3 commands. Those are some of the facts of life of cloud storage, which with the cloud more broadly, is increasingly in use alongside on-premise IT assets for most organisations. ![]() Some cost more than others to just store data, some are more pricy than others when it comes to egress costs, some may perform better than others, and others may simply be in the right place. Just about all organisations use the cloud to some extent, with the most advanced use cases including the capability to burst out to cloud capacity to meet demand or for particular workloads.īut, not all clouds are created equally when it comes to storage. The backdrop comes from the increasing use of cloud compute and cloud storage, which are increasingly in the mix with on-premise IT assets. But where does the need for these services comes from and how does it work? That’s the offer proffered by Flexify.io. The company claims it can make cloud supplier lock-in a thing of the past, and allow customers a simplified single point of access to a range of cloud storage providers that may differ in terms of capacity pricing, egress, performance, region etc.įlexify also offers migration between clouds at costs that can come in below cloud providers’ egress charges. ![]() Our reference RX 7900 XT offers higher traditional raster performance, but If you play games that use real-time ray tracing, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is generally faster (and I’m not talking about when DLSS or any other resolution scaling in effect). Things cost more than they used to now, as I keep learning every time I go shopping for anything. Maybe, just maybe, we can accept that high-end GPUs are expensive niche products right now (as they once were), and the era of $699 flagships is over. However, I don’t think prices are coming down any time soon, unless Intel’s next GPU kicks major ass or AMD decides to start a price war. ![]() AMD was selling their flagship Radeon RX 5700 XT for just $399 a few years ago, and the GTX 1080 Ti was $699. I am, however, growing increasingly tired of the current-gen pricing complaints. Having a $699+ RTX 3080 does not help, but if the market votes against the status quo then who knows what might happen with pricing. I could theorize that once an RTX 4060/4060 Ti cards is available (in what I hope will be the under-$500 segment), we may finally see the RTX 30 Series put to bed – and with it the price pressure on these higher-performing new parts. We have a xx70 card with a higher price tag than the last-gen xx80 card, and it doesn’t matter what the performance is (apparently) people will still be outraged by this. While it ended up being $100 lower than we anticipated, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti’s $799 price will still anger a lot of people. ![]() Regarding the objects lighting, in Hyper Light Drifter especially, how do some tiles have beautifully placed lighting like they look seamlessly placed? Are they unique tiles with their own lighting that were just placed there? Or is there some technique that I'm missing here? How would you go about drawing something like this on, say, graphicsgale? Would it have to be a massive image size? I read that takes a lot of memory and would be bad for performance, so that couldn't be it. Gorgeous lighting and background coloring techniques they used don't make sense to me. Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Hyper light drifter recently did this. It won't make you better with drawing static images, but if you want smooth animations you want the features described above, onion skinning and the ability to flip between frames. There's a lot of other concerns also with making pixel art animations, it's a time consuming process so it needs to be easy to do everything else, like preview your work, export to a sprite sheet, import existing sprite sheets, etc. It won't make you a better artist but it can make you a more productive artist if the software isn't fighting you the whole time. #Hyper light drifter sprite sheets software

The Pela unit pictured is a brilliant piece of kit-used one for years. This type of oil extractor can either be connected to the top of this built-in pipe or if the engine doesn't have a built-in pipe, the Pela unit comes with a selection of nylon pipes that can be slid down the dipstick tube right down to the bottom of the sump. Some marine units have a pre-installed pipe that is connected to where the sump plug would be on a car engine and it's other end is at the top of the engine with a cap on it. Marine inboard engines, petrol or diesel, cannot be drained via a drain plug, therefore most marine techs use this sort of oil extractor. Any heavy contaminants will stay in the bottom of the sump, the oil pump pick up point is usually quite close to the bottom so it is likely to pick up what you leave in there as well. It's a matter of how happy you are to leave this in there by using this method. The dipstick tube never reaches to the bottom of the sump so using this method always leaves some old oil in there. The filter is there to trap most of the contaminants found in the oil, if it gets blocked there is a bypass route for the oil which means all the contaminants stay in the oil causing damage to the engine. Part of any oil change should also include a filter change at the same time. ![]() The engine oil should be hot so that it runs quicker, undoing the plug and moving it away so tha the oil rushes out purging any heavy contaminants with it. If you jack up so that the plug is still at the lowest point then you will be ok. ![]() The theory is that the car should be on the level as the sump plug is designed to be at the lowest point on the engine.
